We are a Sunshine Coast, Qld, Australia based company with our:-

Who We Are

We are a Glue Laminated Beam ( GLULAM ) manufacturing and supply business.

Our primary product offer is GL17 pine laminated beams in 'untreated', 'H2 treated' and 'H3 treated' forms.

We are a family based and orientated business to the point that even the business name was derived from a simple play on words using my wife's name ( Megan ), hence the "Meg" in Megabeam.

We specialise in superior supply service and technical support for our valued clients.

We want to be valued as a company that is easy to do business with.


John Schwabe, Megabeam's managing director has been glue laminating since 1990 and consulting as an engineer since 1988.

John developed the current raft of Glulam grades that exist in the Timber Design Standard AS1720.1 John was also one of the author's of the existing manufacturing standard AS1328, and is party to the drafting of the new Standard. John was part of the genius of the industry organisation, the "GLTAA" and developed much of their technical recommendations.

Qualifications include:-

  • Professional Engineer in Australia ( NPER-3 No 390491 )
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland ( RPEQ 4328 )
  • Civil Engineer in Victoria ( EC 39927 )
  • Medium Rise Builder in Queensland ( QBCC No 1194636 )

John developed the product we make and supply. We believe we have the professional and practical experience to support our clients, customers and end users in almost any facet of design, specification, installation and maintenance of our product.

Megabeam commenced trading in 2011 supplying GL17 beams to Timber Merchants and Truss and Frame manufacturers on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Megabeams ability to supply beams to the market within 24 hours is what initially set it apart.
